A Tribute to Hailey

On Thanksgiving Day our beautiful newborn niece was taken back to her Heavenly Father. We had the amazing privilege of being able to visit with her in the hospital shortly after she was born. We were able to hold her, rock her, and look into her sweet dark blue eyes. After being able to visit with her for a couple days we took off to North Carolina to spend Thanksgiving with my brother and his family. When we heard the news we all made arrangements to come back down here to be together. I was amazed as I listened to Melica and Aaron speak at the funeral about their youngest little girl. The strength of their spirit and testimony poured out from them filling the room. I always admired and tried to emulate my "big sister" growing up, and I am discovering that that desire only continues to increase over time as she sets such an incredible example before me.

Vacation Time

So, in all my updating and excitement with pumpkins I forgot our trip to Utah! Sterling and I took a few days off work in the beginning of October to go out to Utah and visit his sisters. Christa met us out there from Texas and we all got to go to general conference and see the beautiful fall colors! The weather was nice, but freezing! If I remember correctly it was in the low to mid 60's....and that was the high! And I feel justified in classifying low to mid 60's as freezing when we got off the plane in Florida and walked out into 95 degree weather at 6:00 at night.

Right after Saturday afternoon General Conference

In celebration of Leah's birthday we painted pumpkins...

Rumpins!

We did our annual pumpkin carving for FHE on Monday night. I think it turned out pretty well....if I do say so myself!

Cleaning out the rumpins! (I never knew that's
what they were called until I got married)

This was the first little one to go in the big one

Second little pumpkin to go in the big one

And the big one!

One Year Anniversary

Ok. It's been a while since we updated this thing, but I'm really too lazy to get into any details. Needless to say there will be a lot of pictures and few words. Hope you like it!

We went to Savannah, Georgia in August for our one year anniversary!

Our hotel was great! That's it in the background.
It was an old victorian mansion overlooking Forsyth Park.

We found this old restaurant to eat at. It was sooo good.
The best chocolate milkshakes and the best cherry coke ever!

Next, on MTV cribs

I'd say, "Welcome to our humble home," but it's too killa to be a humble home. Welcome to our crib.

So we decided to move. No big deal, right? WRONG. Big deal. First, there was shopping for a place. Three years later, we found the perfect deal on the perfect place, the perfect distance from both of our jobs. We later found out that it's not in the Bonita ward anymore, which can be perfect or not, depending on how you look at it. :) Anyway, what I DIDN'T realize is that we can't just move into a place- first we have to paint it. No big deal, right? Just paint it. Wrong again. To see Julia and her mom tear apart books and books of paint colors was reminiscent of a medieval crusade. Another three years later, we had colors picked out... then came the painting.

After the colors were picked out, we had to see if they looked good. Notice I said AFTER the colors were picked out. What am I going to say, "No- let's do it all again?" They looked great. My wife is staring at me now... they really did look great though. :)

My hott wife taping the floorboards and counter.

Her hott husband painting in the kitchen. I was hoping it would be worth it... if we ever finished.

Check out those legs... I mean that paint. Looks good, huh?

If you're going to paint a wall, you might as well have fun with it! Back in the day we used to get arrested for stuff like this! Just kidding. Sorry, Mom.

No pressure at all painting next to a guy who used to paint for a LIVING. Also, the remnants of our awesome lunch from Five Guys (my idea)!

Hott wife... racing stripes... good day. :)

The end result. I guess this idea is the freshest thing from Paris. Dang straight.
SO- a total of 6 years later and after two weekends of painting (MUCH love to both of our parents for the backup on that one), our house became more homey. Not homely-- homey. Then came the moving in part... we'll update you on that when it's actually finished. Let's just say that we moved in on my B-day, July 15th, and we still have piles of boxes around. We're working on it, though. More pics later.

Big Giant Post

Well, it's been a while since the last update, but I didn't get my Sunday nap, so I'll try and make this short and sweet (and not in any particular order...because I can't remember the order)......

Jonathan, Val, and Ella came to visit
and Ella had her first beach experience.
As you can see she was quite excited.
I think she slept for the first hour we
were there.

Her first taste of the Gulf.

My grandmother flew in as well,
so we got a shot of four generations.
Ella was blessed on Sunday,
and this is right after the blessing.

The original Davis family clan....plus Gammie. =)

So the other night we came home and this ugly cactus vine that grows on our palm trees had a big white bloom on it. We looked it up and it is called a "Queen of the Night" or a "Night Blooming Cereus." Apparently it blooms once at night and then never again....or something like that.
